Images of industry
If you need definitions of the different types of exercises or activities to be submitted on moodle, look at the User's Guide..
The industrial environment gave rise to new types of images, revealing how contemporaries envisioned these new settings, ranging from Ironbridge, which was depicted in drawings and paintings, to factories which were an original subject for painters such as Wright of Derby, who made paintings of cotton mills as well as scientific scenes, and historical scenes on ancient craftsmen. Industrial landscapes were also represented on objects such as ceramics, as well as classical landscapes. After looking at the pages mentioned here on such topics, read again the pages on science and scientific circles such as the Lunar Society studied previously (Unit 5), and discuss the interaction between the arts and science or technology.
