This optional course will deal with rebels and protesters in modern Britain: Luddites (machine breakers, 1811-1816), Chartists (1836-1850); atheists and free-thinkers; feminists, suffragists and suffragettes; LGBTQ+ activists, trade-unionists; anti-imperialists and anti-racists; peace and anti-nuclear activists — British men and women who, over the past two centuries, struggled to change their society.
